2022-02-25

Large sports competitions are an important form of cultural exchange. Whether it is for the participants or the audience, the fairness and rigor of the competition are indispensable. A misjudgment is likely to cause irreparable regrets, and the addition of RFID technology can greatly reduce the chance of misjudgment in the game, while adding more possibilities to modern sports.

RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) originated from the aircraft identification technology in the United Kingdom during World War II . After many years of application evolution and technology development, it has been widely used in logistics, medical, manufacturing and other industries, and has also been gradually used in sports events.

RFID technology system composition: RFID electronic tag, RFID reader device, data management system.
Working principle: The RFID reader equipment sends a signal of a certain frequency through the antenna. When the product which attached electronic tag enters the working area of the antenna, the electronic tag will generate enough induced current, so that the energy is activated, and the reader will receive the signal, and send to the data management system to identify and operation.
RFID identification technology has the characteristics of fast scanning, large memory capacity and changeable shape. It can help us provide real-time tracking of players and balls in sports events, and also assist referees to make the most correct rulings and reduce the possible of misjudgment.

The application of RFID in the field of sports can be traced back to the Berlin Marathon in 1994. The participating athletes were pasted with electronic tags with personal information. Through the information collection of the rfid readers machine set at the starting point, the end point and the way of the competition, it was more accurate ro monitor the process of the game, and the determination of the athletes' performance is more accurate. This opened a precedent for the use of RFID technology in sport. Since then, various road races, cross-country skiing, football, track and field, shot put, golf and other competitions have started to use RFID technology.
